HDS B.R.I.D.G.E.S. Students Bowl for the Lucky Strike

HDS B.R.I.D.G.E.S. Students Bowl for the Lucky Strike

The HDS B.R.I.D.G.E.S. students headed out for fun with their peers to practice their bowling skills; their motto was “Be bold and go for the strike!” When students arrived at the bowling alley, they first had to find their correct bowling shoe size and then change into them.  Once shoes were on, students headed to their lane, chose their right bowling ball size, and joined their team members.

Students received a brief tutorial on how to bowl; they learned to hold the ball and, most importantly, show good sportsmanship toward their teammates.  Each student did a fantastic job trying to strike as many pins as possible. When Melanie was ready to take her turn, she surprised herself and made a strike! Everyone was so proud of her!

In addition to having lots of fun, bowling required students to practice sharing and treating their teammates with kindness and respect. Stay tuned to the B.R.I.D.G.E.S. class next Community Based Instruction fieldtrip, as they head to see the new movie, Strange World.

Giving Is Better Than Receiving!

Today the HDS B.R.I.D.G.E.S. students headed on a shopping trip to Walmart to purchase holiday gifts for their siblings. This Community Based Instruction is designed to help students practice their budgeting skills as students are given a specific budget. One of the students, Dakota, was thinking outside the box and was curious to know if one of the items he chose was a better deal on Amazon, so we looked it up and found that Walmart had better prices. In the end, students used the self-check-out registers and were very proud of their budgeting skills!

Ice Cream Sundae Challenge!

The B.R.I.D.G.E.S. class participated in an Ice Cream Sundae Challenge for their Community Based Instruction activity this week.  The day before the event, students were put in teams of 3-4.  They had to work together to decide what flavor ice cream and 3 toppings their group would like to buy at Publix staying within their $20.00 budget including tax.  Students researched different flavors of ice cream and toppings along with the cost of these items on the Publix website.

Once at Publix, the teams were off and running locating all the items on their list.  Students had to use their problem-solving skills and work as team when they were unable to locate a product or were not able to find the correct size product.  Before checking out, they had to make sure they stayed within budget including tax.

The students did a fabulous job using the self-checkout registers.  After returning to school, everyone enjoyed their frozen desserts!

HDS B.R.I.D.G.E.S. students take on the “Secret Elf”

This holiday season, the HDS B.R.I.D.G.E.S. students took on the “Secret Elf” title for the morning as they headed out to Walmart to do some holiday shopping for their friends! The mission was: to stay under $25 (including tax) and purchase the items that were listed on the Gift List that their classmate filled out. It was a great adventure throughout the aisles of Walmart, as students had to figure out which gifts, they could purchase without going over their budget. Once they were ready, the students headed to the Self-Checkout area, scanned, and paid for their items.
All the students stayed under their $25 budget! We are very proud of the students and their budgeting skills!
