HDS B.R.I.D.G.E.S. Students Carry Out Acts of Kindness
Today’s Community Based Instruction (CBI) trip for the HDS B.R.I.D.G.E.S. students was fantastic. The goal of this CBI was to purchase gifts for the senior citizens receiving care at the Daniel D. Cantor Senior Center as well as the children who would be spending the holidays receiving medical care at the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.
Our students first made their way to Five Below at the local mall to buy gifts for the seniors and children. Students were given a $15 budget to spend on each gift. Some of the items they purchased for the children were books, arts and crafts, games, and stuffed animals. The gifts they bought for the senior citizens were a Crossword/Sudoku Puzzle book and a soft, cozy throw blanket. These items would be used as prizes for the seniors during various holiday game days.
The students enjoyed lunch at Burger King with their friends after their shopping adventure and had a great time taking a leisurely stroll around the mall. Even Santa himself posed for a picture with them!
We are incredibly proud of the community service skills our HDS B.R.I.D.G.E.S. students are acquiring through their CBIs!
Well done!

HDS B.R.I.D.G.E.S. Students Host a Friendsgiving Luncheon
Today the HDS B.R.I.D.G.E.S. students hosted a Friendsgiving Luncheon with special friends from another class, staff members, and administrators. Everyone was treated to a delicious smorgasbord of their favorite traditional Thanksgiving foods cooked by a personal chef. There was plenty of turkey, ham, green beans, yeast rolls, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, pumpkin, and sweet potato pie. They all enjoyed their meal but saved room for one more dessert! Each student decorated a cookie shaped like a turkey with sprinkles, candy, and icing!
At the Friendsgiving Luncheon, students greeted the visitors with a warm welcome as they arrived. Then, students shared what they were grateful for this year during lunch. Most of them expressed appreciation for their friends, family, and place to call home. They also made time to put into practice the table manners and etiquette they had studied and practiced the week before.
After a sumptuous meal, everyone mingled and chatted with one another. We are proud of the knowledge and abilities our HDS B.R.I.D.G.E.S. students acquire as they prepare for their post-secondary journeys!
Happy Thanksgiving!
