1st Day of Summer Internship Program
A great deal of excitement and anticipation in the air at the HDS Foundation as our first Summer Internship Program kicks off. We welcomed four student interns from the Dan Marino Foundation Summer STEPS Program, together with their Job Coach and Supervisor. Our goal this summer is to acquaint these young men and women to technology, and more specifically software testing. Although we will be focusing on certain basic elements, the importance of collaborating in the workplace, learning new terms and processes was our focus. We are looking forward to exposing them to the world of software and hopefully help build additional skills that will assist them in job searches and other means for their future success. Welcome to HDS!
2013 Cheer Buddies Banquet
The Cypress Bay Cheer Squad and the Cheer Buddies held their yearly baquet at Weston Hills Country Club. They celebrated their accomplishments and said goodbye to the Senior class, awards were given out and comical “Superlatives.” All the students had a wonderful time and dressed to impress. We cannot wait to see the squad for the up and coming year. Thanks for the great memories team!
Orientation for Dan Marino Summer STEPS Program
The HDS Foundation staff attended Orientation for the Dan Marino Foundation Summer STEPS Internship Program this week. HDS is a new partner for the Dan Marino Foundation, and will be a summer job site for a small group of interns. As part of the Foundation’s long term plans, a software testing training program is being contemplated for this summer. As the interns do not have much technical background, some of the activities will be foundational, and they will be provided specific tasks addressing data integrity and basic testing principles. During the orientation, the DMF staff including Director Kerri Morse, met with inters, families, and job coaches to help set up programs to help the students to succeed in finding jobs and other skills to better themselves. The DMF Summer Steps Internship Program runs for 8 weeks from June to August.
Cypress Bay High School ESE End of the Year Brunch
As the school year comes to an end, the Cypress Bay High School students were able to put their skills into practice at the end of the year luncheon. Students, teachers, members from the ESE department, and employers were all present as the students spoke about what they had learned. The students created PowerPoints and highlighted their experiences and accomplishments of the year. They showed off what they had learned from the HDS Foundation classes and impressed everyone. Students also showed off their cooking skills and made all the guest a brunch fit for a king with eggs, bacon, and other tasty breakfast treats. Thank you to Dr. Sheryl Sugerman for inviting us to your event. And especially to Maria, Brian Jose and AJ who have shared this great year with us at the HDS Foundation! Have a great summer!
Autism Day: The Marlins VS The Phillies
The HDS family visited the Marlins Park on Sunday, April 14th to watch the hometown Marlins take on the Philadelphia Phillies. The Marlins went above and beyond to focus the game on Autism awareness. They had volunteer recognization during the game, an Autism kiosk at the pregame, and portions of the proceeds benefited the Marlins Foundation and local Autsim groups. They had an Autism Resource Fair in the West Plaza and children were able to run the bases after the game.It is great when our hometown teams get involved in great causes! Lets Go Fish!
